I Am From 

The culmination of my grandparents,

present family’s experiences

i am from the decisions and choices 

yes’s and no’s 

from the thoughts form and words chosen

I am from the sum total of relationships 

from present friends and people I’ve

forgotten 

I am from the people around– 

from co-workers 

from My high school friends 

from my mutual friends  

I am from the fear and anxiety of not

doing enough 

not fast enough 

not certain enough 

not productive enough 

I am from someone who wanted to be

seen as equal and perfect Free from

mistakes and criticism 

who stands on equal footing  

who has the right to a voice 

I am from the sum total of my hopes and

ambition 

to be my own individual 

to act on what is true and not convenient 

I am from my desire to see the world

beyond my tiny closet room, I am from the

hope to see and experience the world

more fully.
